Activities:
The connection of generation systems, that are linked to the network through power converters, are increasing rapidly. These converters are able to provide new functionalities in order to enhance the grid stability.

In the Grid Connection Lab, the education and research is devoted to:

  • Experimenting with smart grids.
  • Improving the response of the electrical networks under network contingencies.
  • Designing applications for communicating the power processors of different power plants.
  • Experimenting with control structures able to feed critical loads under fault conditions.
  • Designing advanced grid interactive control systems for the power processors of clean energy sources.

Facilities:

  • Grid Connection Lab equipped with development and measurement systems
  • Offices for professors and PhD students
  • Meeting room

Equipments:

  • Microgrid experimental setup
  • Workbench for designing and testing PCBs.
  • Grid simulator
  • Auxiliar loads and generation systems
  • Controllable AC and DC power sources
  • Advanced HIL control systems (dSpace)
  • DSP development systems
  • Digital scopes and meters
