Abstract

Distributed generation of electricity is already part of the current electrical system. In this context a new scenario appears in which small energy sources make a new type of system: the microgrid. Research in this field is an open issue. Issues as relevant as the optimal energy management microgrid, researching new control strategies for power converters that comprise the system and the detection and management modes operation of microgrids are the main objectives of this project. In this new scenario, and for efficient and safe operation of these systems, it is necessary to conduct an investigation applied at different levels for an efficient use of new energy sources. The latest research shows the technical difficulty of controlling the operation of a microgrid. It is a complex system where they interact energy sources, power converters, energy storage systems, fillers and the grid itself. The problem of control and management of the microgrid is proposed under the energetical point of view, getting reliability and quality of power supply. The objectives of this research project arise in the case of a microgrid able to operate both as networked or isolated. In the control of the microgrid will take into account the implications arising in the transitions between these two modes of operation. Contributions are expected both in the control of power electronic converters operating in microgrids as well as system management. Practical applications will represent a technological innovation for companies supporting this project. The research groups that make up this coordinated project complement their experiences in designing converters and their associated drivers.
